The List

by Siobhan Vivian

Every year The List is posted. A list of the prettiest and ugliest girl in each grade. The List is posted all over the school so the students cannot escape. This book is the story of the eight girls, freshman through senior, prettiest and ugliest, on the list.

The first chapters started slow for me. I was afraid this book was going to be fairly shallow and cliche, but as it got going it developed far more and the characters grew three-dimensional.  There were several twists that I didn’t see coming and overall, this was a well-rounded look at the high school hierarchy that really exists. There is girl drama and boy drama and parent drama and real issues that happen as well.

All the girls on the list become the center of attention which effects each of them differently. Near the end of the story I was walking around my house while reading so that I wouldn’t have to put it down. Who made the list? You’ll find out at the very end. That alone makes this book worth reading. Check it out.
