The Raven Boys

by Maggie Stiefvater

Blue is the daughter of a psychic and has been told as long as she can remember that if she kisses her true love, he will die. On St. Mark’s Eve she sees the spirit of a boy from the rich school down the street. The only reason a non-psychic would see such a spirit is if she will kill him or if he is her true love.

So much happens in this story. I didn’t really do the summary justice- there are more twists and turns that I imagined. It is dark and creepy and occasionally funny and very well written, with characters that grow and change in front of your eyes. No one is without secrets; no one is simple, and I was left at then end trying to turn the page into the sequel. This was definitely a strange read with magic and psychics and murder and mayhem, but the boys from Aglionby Academy are endlessly fascinating.
