Melissa refuses to grow up. Which is probably why this genre speaks to her so much.
She graduated from Hope College with a degree in English and education and is currently teaching third grade.
When she was young, she brought books to recess and ignored other kids. While that didn’t help socially, it instilled an early love and respect for reading.
She remembers the first time she cried while reading a book in public (Where the Red Fern Grows) and when she read it again, in the same place, a year later. Now she cries while reading books in public on a regular basis. Almost as much as she laughs.
